VICTORIAN COPY SCOTTISH TARGE #9511

A well made copy of a Scottish shield, a targe, used by the Scottish Highlanders famously at the battle of Culloden in 1746 after the Jacobite rising, the carrying of these shields were banned after that date, they had been in use since the early 17th century,

The 22 inch (56cm) leather covered wooden shield covered with brass studs around the edge and studdec brass triangles and 6 glass stones, the centre of domed brass with a central spike, the carrying straps of the shield have been removed by the previous owner for display purposes, the shield was made under the Craftmade Scheme set up in 1971 under the Scottish Highlands and Islands Development Board, by H Ferguson in Edinburgh in 1974.    #9511rfo
