EARLY 17THc GERMAN HUNTING HANGER/SWORD #9298

An early interesting German hunting hanger/sword circa 1650 with the grip, knuckle guard and down-turned quillon covered in antler held by rivets with shells, the guard in the form of a downturned shell with traces of engraved decoration, 69 cm long single edged blade with a broad fuller on each side running to the point. One side of the blade decorated with a hunting scene of hounds chasing a rabbit and a deer and an inscription, the other side with a horseman, florals/flowers and an inscription. Both sides of the ricasso deeply marked with the makers mark M above an angle. 3 small shells missing from the knuckle guard and a small loss of antler and some wear to the edge of the blade. various parts of the hilt showing signs of silvering  #9298yno
