A 19th century African Congo ancestral male figure from the Luba people, the figure, seated, is 20 inches tall of carved wood and metal decorated with rows of shell and seed garlands, the forehead, chin, ear area, breast, wrists and waist covered with decorated brass or copper sheet, the waist with a coconut fibre hand woven covering, the head covered with woven material and stuck with various feathers. #9408no
Formerly in the collection of Prince Henrik of Denmark, 1934-2018, (see photo)consort to Queen Margrethe of Denmark, his collection of African art formed over many years during his visits to Africa in his role as Ambassador of the Red Cross, His collection was displayed at the Gammel Holtgaard art museum in Holte for 3 months in 2009 and was then returned to their place in the royal couple's private apartments at Fredensborg Palace.
