INDONESIAN JAVANESE KUDI DAGGER #9204

A large Indonesian Kudi dagger, pattern welded iron 11 inch blade, punched with 6 holes, wooden hilt in the form of a kris hilt, complete with wooden scabbard. These daggers are found in Java, Madura and Bali and are said to have mystical powers. Overall 17 inches. The fittings are not as old as the blade. #8219lo

The two coloured effect of the metal is created by forging together various types of metal to form patterns, citric acid is appled and softer metals are corroded, if one metal contains nickel and the other does not, the adding of arsenic causes the metal without nickel to blacken and the metal containg nickel remains as shiny as silver.

See, Traditional Weapons Of The Indonesian Archipelago. by Albert G. Van Zonneveld, p 63 for this explanation and p 76 for the weapon.
