SWISS NAPOLEONIC PERIOD BRASS HILT BRIQUET SABRE #9172

A Swiss Napoleonic period AN XI Infantry Hussars Sabre or Briquet, 1813-1852 model, cast brass hilt stamped 1615 and with a Solothurn Canton stamp. The 23½ inch heavy slightly curved German made blade stamped KULL (Solingen) at the ricasso on one side and a skull on the other, These sabres were also used by the Gendarme and Customs Officers. The blade shows some grinding marks. Overall 28½ inches. #9172no

This was the kind of sword favoured by Napoleon's troops for Sabrage. (The art of removing the top of a Champagne bottle with the back edge of the sword)
