A set of 11 plates commemorating the return of Napoleon's body from the Island of St Helena where he was originally buried in 1821, back to France for a State burial, the plates produced in 1841 are from a set of 12 and are all numbered, and with the artists initials E.J. the back of the plates all stamped with the factory stamp "GIEN" and all marked "PORCELAINE OPAQUE. GIEN". They are all transfer printed with scenes of the journey from the island to France and all with the relevant date for the occasion, they show around the edge of the plate various battles and the French Eagle holding a sword, the battles shown are TOULON, ARCOLE, WATERLOO, MONTEREAU, les PYRAMIDES and the ILE D' ELBE.

Plates No 3 is missing.

First buried on St. Helena, Napoleon's remains were exhumed and brought to Paris in 1840 on the orders of Louis-Philippe, who demanded that the English return the emperor to French soil. The remains were locked inside six coffins in this tomb made of red Finnish porphyry, with a green granite base. Surrounding it are a dozen Amazon-like figures representing Napoleon's victories
