AFRICAN CONGO DAGGER. POTO TRIBE #8588

A sword-dagger from the Democratic Republic of the Congo formerly Zaire, From the Poto/Ngombe people, 18 inch hand forged blade, forged from one piece of metal with an off-centre rib either side and covered with hand chiselled decoration on both sides, the top of the blade wrapped with rattan, the wooden hilt covered with animal hide, possibly zebra, these wrapped hilts were said to contain magical powers and these weapons were used by the chieftains. Overall 26 inches, 66 cm long.  #8588lo.
